Last week, a day before it was supposed to have been streamed, someone went onto the Funimation Server, nabbed the new One Piece ep that was supposed to be screened, and torrented it out to everyone.
This caused Funi to try to fix this problem(and for One piece streams to be cancelled(Hopefully for now)).
They were gonna try again, but the same group went and nabbed the new Phantom and FMA eps that were supposed to be streamed.
This would probably not be a problem except for the fact that the episodes(Except for FMA) hasn’t aired, even in Japan.
My opinion.:What these “Rippers”(That is what I am gonna call these guys) are doing is setting the US market up for a fall. Because of all of the leaks, the Japanese companies(Especially Toei) will be more hesitant to let anyone stream their work.
I have also seen all of the Anime forum posts stating that this is all Funi’s fault. I doubt that is the case. Because: Even a high amount of security probably will not stop these guys from stealing these episodes. They would try and try until they succeeded. That is why blaming Funi is pointless.
…And I know C&D’s won’t stop these guys. Fansubs are one thing. Trying to piss off everyone(Fans, companies, etc) is another. I feel that Funi should go after these guys. The Rippers are trying to destroy Funi, and with it, the NA market. Destroying what little we have left in NA is not a good thing.
